Amstel Gold Race, it's not just big in Holland! But they sure do love it...!
So, we thought we'd check it out! After a good and thorough brunch we met in Vaals, in order to ride to the course together! Of course, the weather was shitty! Foggy, damp, slick streets and definitely near freezing... fantastic...!!

Thanks to Volker's good knowledge of the surroundings, we reached the first of the 31 ascents a couple minutes before the group of pros! Sveny had gotten her speed bike and herself in position….

So, we got into position and gently pushed our bikes into the bushes! Until Sveny was suddenly approached by litlle, yellow man...! Oh, it's just our Volker…ha ha ha! Whose choice in outfit was very befitting to the conditions!!!

At the Gulpenberg ("hill"), where probably half of Holland had congregated, two runaways came by with a clear lead over the rest of the group! By the way, the one in green is Christoph Moreau! They had nothing to do with the outcome of the race...!

Also, not all of the pros on the hill looked fit as a fiddle! See the lotto biker on the right.

Sveny and Volker definitely had a lot of fun!
A short detour into Belgium and we rode back to Vaals to Volker's crib!
By the way, Volker isn't just the super-biker with hardcore speed, but also a great "cake maker"!!!
