Winter
break is finally over for the BMX bikers and I hardly have
the time to write it all down. But I'll do my best. Like every
year the season began with a one wekk training camp in Kolbermoor
over Easter. The first BMX race, "the Kawasaki Cup",
is already planned in order to wake everyone out of their
hibernation.
A week beforehand the course was still being cleared of snow
and ice so that a race and training would even be possible.
All 3 Böltz- and both Huber Pirates were already there
when, on Saturday afternoon when the races was almost over,
our J-J Pirate Jens arrived from a sunny training camp in
Verona and so had to experience the races as a spectator.
Markus, Michi and Melissa took part in the race despite the
break in training. Simon had a cold and couldn't start and
Jenny wasn't fit enough.
Despite the low number of starters, about 120, the Pirate
team was very successful. Markus in 1st place, Michi, in the
elite men's division starting this year, in 3rd place and
Melissa in 1st place.
On Sunday the actual training began. One week with a schedule
starting at 8am and ending at 6pm. Track, gates, spinning,
swimming, strength and endurance, everything and of course
an active recovery phase, e.g. eating ice cream (and in cold
weather like this, but if it makes them faster).
Some also did gangster-riding (speeding down the spiral of
a six story high car park), also known as sprints.
A few people did end up plastered to the wall, like Jenny
(she's fine), or rammed into a pillar. I was informed that
it was especially fun when the asphalt was wet. After 5 days
it was all over and just about everyone was ready for a break.
The next events on the list are the federation championships
of all the states.
Hurray!
A Württemberg champion in the Pirate team. A 3rd place
in the junior division and a slightly damaged 5th place.
On the 10th of April the federation championships took place
in all the different states. Melissa, Simon and Jenny started
for Baden Württemberg.
The location in Ingersheim was almost like riding on home
turf, just 7m/11km away. Of course we spent the days leading
up to it in training there.
On Sunday the weather was great and there were a whopping
198 starters. Melissa was able to shine. Going through 4 races
in first place from start to finish and getting her title.
Jenny gave it her best shot, but wasn't able to pass two of
her opponents and had to be satisfied with a good 3rd place.
Simon had to compete in the semi-final and even though he
is once again a division climber he managed to get a position
in the final without having to struggle.
At the beginning he was able to keep up, but was pushed back
a little on the first turn. In the second turn he positioned
himself on the outside going towards the inside. While passing
an opponent to get into second place the guy he was passing
slipped down the turn and crashed into him. Simon was passed
by two more bikers, but was still able to come in 5th.
I can only say very little about the federation championship
in Bavaria.
It took place in Esselbach, where the Europian championship
has already been carried out twice. Markus, Michi and J-J
started for this state.
All 3 of them were in the elite men's division with about
150 starters.
Markus came in 1st, as expected, Michi, the division climber,
came in 3rd and J -J jumped the gun, slamming into the gate
and bouncing off it backwards.
Despite the kamikaze start he was able to fight his way to
5th place.
With 2 first places, 2 third places and 2 fifth places, I
would say that these championships rockt for Pirate. Next
event on the list are the 1st and 2nd runs of the federal
league in Königsbrunn.
Greetings,
Jürgen
