Today I got back from the 29th Giro Dolomiti in Bozen, Italy,
which I had participated in with three other guys from Freiburg.
All in all, there were 6 legs of about 435m/700km and 39370
vertical ft/12000hm for us to overcome. Every day there was
a mountain time trial with ramps up to 18%.
Right at the beginning of the excursion, I unnecessarily dropped
in the rankings, due to a broken chain during the mountain time
trial, which meant that I really had to make good time on the
rest of the days.
So, after a sunny week in the south, I came in 24th overall
out of about 625 participants. I have to add here that the winner
was a 53 year old Italian dude.
I sort of doubt that everything went "cleanly", but
I was still pleasantly surprised by the organization and the
awesomely hardcore mountains. Next Sunday the 3rd marathon of
the German Bike Masters series will be taking place and since
I had to end the second race of that series early, due to defects,
I'll have to go at it at FULL THROTTLE!!!
Ciao,
Sönke
