...having just gotten back from Italia, Sveny and Captain Klotz
of the Pirate triathlon team, ran in 3 top rankings within 3
days... kinda crazy - huh??!!!
Yo, 2 days after arriving from Italia, after about 621m/1000km
and almost 45931.8 vertical ft/14000hm, we decided. quite spontaneously,
to participate in a local running event "Spring Run Around
the Research Center"! By the way, the track had a distance
of 5.2m/8,3km, dso one of our goals was to set a track record!
Sveny and Captain Klotz stood at the starting line relatively
relaxed and unmotivated with about 75 other runners. I didn't
want to work my ass off on the first few kilometer like I usually
do, so I started out cooly and took a look around...! I guess
I had made my calculations without Manuel... he ran the first
kilometer in 3:15min and I came huffing and puffing behind him
at 3:29min! Bullshit, apparently cool isn't gonna cut it! Hopefully
Sveny will start the race out a little more chilled out!
I caught up to Manuel after 2.5m/4km and the tempo was okay!
When we got to mile 4.3/km 7 - that's .9m/1,3km to the finish
line - he asked me, "if I could go any faster" ????
"of course I can go faster, much faster", was my answer
and he said "okay, I'm at my limit, you run"!!!! Damn,
from that moment on I ran almost all of the rest of the way
at a sprint and I don't know why. I came in at 29:45min, a good
17sec before Manuel!Yeah - first victory on foot since 2004
for Captain Jörn Klotz!
Surprisingly, Sveny finiahed at 32:36min in 5th place overall
and as 1st of the women!! Cool, it was also her first victory
of 2006! Awesome Sveny!!
And then, two days later on that Sunday, we made our way to
Duisburg for the 23rd Rhein - Ruhr - Marathon, within the framework
of which Sveny had been invited to the 5th Rhein - Ruhr - half
- marathon, since she had won it the year before!Little Rene
would run the 26.2m/42,195km marathon track.
The conditions were pretty moderate compared to the biking in
Italia and having barely had any running practice in the past
two weeks.
The 2nd place runner from the previous year was there too, which
meant not setting the tempo herself and just staying in back
of last year's 2nd place...! This worked great and from mile
5/km 9 on, Captain Klotz accompanied Sveny!
On mile 11/km 19 another girl ran up on Sveny and the other
woman, totally surprisingly, and flew past them at high speed!!
A few shouts of encouragement from the Captain drove Sveny forward
and she closed in on the other woman with about .5m/.8km to
go to the finish line! A sweet 218 yard/200m dash followed.
Sveny and the other girl sprinted on the narrow home stretch
with too much traffic!
Sveny came in about 10-20in/30-50cm after the other girl in
a fantastic, closely beaten 2nd place and first in her age division
out of 1076 women, after 13.1m/21,1km! Congratulations Sveny!!
2nd Pirate power performance in 2 days!!!!
Unfortunately, the day's activities weren't over for me, since
I had promised Little Rene that I would accompany him for a
little bit during his marathon and cater to his needs! That's
not so easy when someone can and wants to run his kilometers
at an average of 3:40min!!
Little Rene ran a great race and fought hard!! In an awesome
7th place and 3rd in his age division, he crossed the finish
line in the Duisburg Wedau Stadium 7min faster than his minimum
time, after 2h37min12sec! Hats off and congratulations to Little
Rene!!
One thing is definite, Sveny and Little Rene are gonna kick
some ass!!!!!!!!!!
That´s it -
