Hello
dear community of blessed bike excursionists,
apparently these crazy psychos that inflict multiple 24h races
on themselves exist. However, no one could resist the location,
it made my fingers twitch! Some of the time at the "Bikes on
Fire" in Duisburg we rode on and around the former steel mill
compound, whoch was a more than impressive setting - in the
daytime as well as litlup at night. Unfortunatley there was
a small handicap due to the routing, so not all of the 4.3m/7km
lap, at least not most of the interesting spots, were not accessible
to the audience (see the red lines).
I myself was responsible for part of the supporting program,
as I had been at the 24h race in Munich, and delighted the spectators
with a handful of trial shows…
We were mostly spared the heavy thunderstorms and bad weather
that the Ruhrpott was having from Friday to Sunday. Some rain
on Friday and Saturday, but luckily by showtime my surface was
dry again, but it caught up with me on Sunday and the last show
that went along with the presentation ceremony drowned, literally!
Last but not least some impressions of the unique setting… actually
it's pretty hard to describe and you just have to see it live…
...oh yeah... I do have one more addendum: if they were the
2007 prototypes or the beginnings of the Sram chains, with them
chain breaks are definitely passé! (not taking into consideration
the total weight of the bike)
On that note: Happy Trails
Björn
