On 09/03/2006 the time had come - one of the sweetest marathons
was on the horizon.
For someone from the Saar/Pfalz region it's a obligatory date
anyway. Contrary to all threats of the weather forecast, it
luckily didn't rain. I also have to mention that the track was
really awesome in its versatility: numerous trails and a lot
of technical gimmicks - rain would not have been good…!
No wonder a lot of celebrities show up at this event every year,
e.g. Carsten Bresser, Karl Platt, Kathrin Schwing etc. - they
know what's offered here! This time I had only signed up for
the semi-marathon, since I haven't slept much in last few days
and began the race accordingly sleepy.
The St. Ingbert-Marathon is well known for its narrow technical
passages, where any sort of traffic jam should be avoided. This
is why I took off with the leading group in the beginning.
Later, towards the middle of the race, I slowed down a bit -
after all there were some juicy surprises to come.
The names of these surprises are significant, e.g. "Harry's
Club", "Smile-Ascent", "Jawbreaker", "Bomber Descent", "Hamster
Trail" and "Hell's Ascent" - just to name a few…
The organization and work on the track was also very praiseworthy:
everything was just right! It was impossible to get lost, everything
was marked well, even though some ass tried to sabotage the
event with various stunts right before it started, but since
the leaders of the pack noticed it quickly anything show-stopping
was prevented.
In the end, I finished 31st, which was pretty okay for my "4-hours-of-sleep-should-be-enough-stunt".
Also:
in 2007 St. Ingbert will be the official host of the German
Championship!!!
