After the start, at 3609ft/1100m in splendid late summer weather, the field was quickly drawn apart by the hard ascents and descents. Many of the feet had to be fought for. There weren't a lot of long uphill rides, so that one could fall into the typical marathon rhythm, or the common marathon-forest-autobahn downhill rides. It was my first cross country race in 4 years...

The only thing that consoled me after coming in in 7th place, was the mountain cheese that was given to the participants at the presentation ceremony...
