We chose the Forestman Marathon as the first race of the season.
The 13.7m/22km sprint distance. Even before the race began,
our white jerseys attracted the attention of other participants
and spectators.
Finding room in the starting block was not easy, but luckily
the starting shot was soon fired and our 2PS-Bomber stormed
ahead. After the neutralization vehicle gave us the all clear,
a lead group of 6 quickly took shape, in order to set the
tempo in the flat first third of the race. We attacked on
the first incline and were able to break away from the group.
Luckily, the distance between us and the group grew before
the first descent, so that we could chill out for a little
and focus all our concentration on the next ascent, which
was a very steep tar ramp. This is where we began utilizing
our slipstream advantage on fast, slightly descending forest
trails and the gap between us and the others grew steadily
larger.
After a short, but awesome, downhill, we crossed the finish
line after just 51:04 minutes and over 2min before anyone
else - a new track record! I guess no one had counted on a
tandem that fast!
Our reward at the award ceremony were 2 kegs of Rothaus Pils
beer - perfect! Cheers!
