3rd run of the German Motocross Cup - Mölln
AOn Saturday, the Birlinger/Weigel team made its way to the
trophy run in Mölln near Hamburg. After the qualification
practice, which took place on Sunday by radiant sunshine,
the team was ranked fourth.
We went into the first run with great expectations, which,
however, was abruptly ended after the first lap, since the
grip bar of the side car broke off. It was impossible to keep
going.
After the vehicle was made ready for battle again, it was
time for the second run. On the first turn and in the lead,
the duo ruggedly nudged. A crash was inevitable.
When the team had pulled itself together and the motorcycle
was flipped upright again, the chase commenced. In the end,
despite a busted front wheel brake, we eked into a good 4th
place.
The voctors were the leaders in the trophy race Wieg and his
replacement passenger Wendt.
On June 24th, a show run will be taking place in the Fernsehgarten
program on ZDF. The Birlinger/Weigel team will be a guest
there.
May 28, 2007. 2nd run of the German Motocross Cup in Tessin
On the Monday of Pentecost, the second run of the German MX
Cup took place near Rostock at the coast of the Baltic See.
Due to the 12 hour long trip to Tessin, which is over 466m/750km
away, we passed on starting at the 5th run of the German Championship
in Beuern and concentrated completely on the race on Monday.
We used the free practice to find the right back tire for
the sand track that had been softened by the rain and for
set up.
This was noticeable, when we were given the fourth starting
position after the mandatory training. The first part of the
track wasn't very long and a little slippery, but we still
hoped to start off well. However, we were jammed on the first
turn and so, finished the lap in 8th place. We quickly began
attacking those in front of us in the next lap and mangaed
to pass one competitor after another. When we reached the
middle of the race, we were in 3rd place, behind Wieg/Minkewitz
and Witte/Schubert. We were able to stay in that position
til the end of the race.
The start of the second run went a lot better. We chose a
longer way, but made it through the first turn and after the
first few laps, we were in 2nd place behind Witte/Schubert.
We had to let Wieg, whose a very strong rider, pass us, but
were ablr to overtake him after a crash and put some distance
between us, so that we came in 2nd.
And so, the race went to Witte/Schubert, Wieg/Minkewitz and
Birlinger /Weigel. We defended our 2nd place in the overall
ranking.
