P-Weg Marathon Weekend 2007 was cancelled! What many had feared, has now become bitter fact! The P-Weg Marathon Weekend 2007 has been cancelled due to the great damage to the forest that the storm Kyrill caused! This decision was made on Monday morning together with the P-Weg team, the forest authority, the mayor and the representatives of the owner of the forest .
A P-Weg team member had even flown over the track in an airplane beforehand, in order to get an idea of the horrible damage, since not even the forest owners had made their way into every nook and cranny. The Sieger and Sauerland were hit the worst. It is assumed that the clean-up work will last until August-September .
It follows that the forest paths will be in really bad condition, due to the heavy machinery and trucks atht will be used. I took a look at some parts of the track myself last weekend. Right now some of the track is completely covered with leaves and pine wood. Entering the woods is strictly prohibited here and we are all forced to train on the street .
So we would also have an insurance problem, despite 800 aides. We also hope that this decision will improve the rather "difficult" relationship between us and the forest owners in the future. Unfortunately, this also means that the Pirate team championships will not take place, at least not in Plettenberg! But, we know our Captain and he is probably already thinking about alternatives!
We still have to carry out the Bar Championship 2007… We, of the P-Weg organizational team will start taking care of the event in 2008, when all of Plettenberg will be operating under the skull and crossbones once again !
