After a lot of back and forth - after all, the tour had been
offered last year too (Pirate Tours) - Jan has agreed to ride
through the Oden Forest from Bensheim to Michelstadt with
me. At this point, I would like to thank Jan that he remained
so stubborn concerning the date.
Due to discretion, I didn't ask him what he had to promise
his girlfriend, so that she would also join us for the ride.
It could not have been too convincing though, because after
about 3 hours she started riding back.
Since the crossing through the Oden Forest is not exactly
a walk in the park, we planned to meet at 7:50am, so that
we would return while it was still light out.
Our meeting place was Bensheim-Auerbach and since we were
all almost on time, we were able to jump into the fray at
8:10am. Luckily, there was a hiking trail ("yellow square")
that we could follow comfortably. I may not know where it
begins or ends, but it took us all the way through the Oden
Forest to Mittenberg on the Main.
The tour roughly went along the following stations: Felsenmeer
(Reichenbach), Neukirchnerhöh, Michelstadt, Vilbrunn, Miltenberg
(Main).
We took our time and enjoyed the awesome weather. After reaching
our goal, we lay on the bank of the Main, getting a tan and
eating a pizza. It was nice and calm, at least until a horde
of pubescent school girls swarmed us. Our "dozing-off-time"
had come to an end. We took flight, which was probably a good
idea, since it was already 4pm and we decided to take the
paved road back.
Unfortunately, the return was not as quiet as the way there,
thanks to the typical motorcycle weather, but it was quick.
It was nice and a repeat would be great - with a few variations
it will be a great tour over and over again.
Greetings,
Andreas
