Since May 1st was a Tuesday, it made perfect sense to take
that Monday off and take a nice "outing" to Switzerland
over the long weekend.
What a coincidence.... just that weekend a big foot race event
took place in Lausanne. The 12.4m/20km of Lausanne, where
they also had a 6.2m/10km track, of course.
Since Jess had looked after me all day during the Freiburg
marathon, I now had the chance to pay her back at her first
competition ever.
The race didn't start until about 5:30pm and so we had enough
time to pick up the starter documentation.
The start of the 10 blocks overall took place every 5min.
The first 1.3m/3km were flat and went along Lake Geneva, past
the Olympia Museum. Then, suddenly, the street inclined...
but what goes up must come down, even Reinhold Messner knew
that, and so we crossed the finish line sooner than we thought
we would.
Jess was really happy to have finished off her first 6.2m/10km
race, which ended up being pretty demanding. After all, she
just started running and quit smoking 3 months ago.
Afterwards, we did a little hiking through the Bernese Oberland
- in a Pirate shirt in the Swiss national colors, of course!
Result: the Swiss are faster than we think ;-)
Chain to the right,
Nina
