As every year, the Sauerland Pirates took the trip from beautiful
Plettenberg to the mountains of the Pitz Valley in Austria,
in order to balance out the disharmony in their musculature
with some skiing. In addition to the athletic part, the "après
part" promised to be as amusing as ever. Especially since Mallorca
Paule is celebrating his premier in the Alps this year.
And so it all began quite amusingly…. After arriving early Saturday
morning, we made our way to the piste, in order to enjoy the
lovely weather and the slopes, which were well prepared in the
circumstances. Happily enough, Mallorca Paule did surprisingly
well hurtling himself down the slopes… but that was pretty much
it… in the following après part, he experienced his personal
Waterloo!
He went under, his roommate "Ball Lightning" Frank had to baby-sit,
and Paule didn't even make it to dinner. And so began our fun-filled
days….
On the next morning, the private comedy show of Belozok Hartmut
began at the breakfast table…. He immediately informed us that
when he woke up, every part of him had been stiff like Ötzi…
whether that was the result of the open balcony door or his
natural drive, is left to everyone's individual imagination.
It was not a surprise then that he was presented with a t-shirt
displaying his new pseudonym "Honey Willy", the very next evening….
During the next few days, we happily pillaged our way through
the skiing region, enjoying ourselves thoroughly.
In the evenings we kept Austria's only Pirate, our barkeeper
Daniel, on his toes. After the other patrons had left the establishment,
he quickly changed into his Pirate outfit, without coming out
from behind the bar. As these pictures document.
And then there were the nice Swiss lads on a boys' night out….
They made life at the bar pretty tough, after some initial reservations.
As one can see on the receipts, they just kept ordering Enzian…,
but our spearhead "Ball Lightning" launched a counterattack
in true Pirate manner and stood fast until the end. The results
of the blow test clearly prove this… 5.5 pro mille!
On the last day, we took part in the annual ski race…
This year the points definitely go to Switzerland! They kicked
our asses. Except for our Pirate Senior Scare, nobody made it
to the podium. Scare, in typical manner, won himself the trophy
in the Seniors I division on his golden skis, also known as
the Fiber Glass Rockets. Stedebeker was able to come in 4th
in the Men's division, right before Captain Jack Kurras.
On the last night, Mallorca Paule, who was known amongst the
staff as "Goat Peter", wanted to apologize again for his malfunction
that first night and served us the appetizer at the restaurant.
Of course he was appropriately attired in a dirndl and a Pirate
bandanna….
Once again, we had some good times, hanging free and clearing
our heads (some people call it deleting the hard drive). We
are now ready for the MTB
