"Against the Wind" was the battle cry at the triathlon
in St. Peter Ording and we don't mean a dry desert wind either,
but a real, wet North Sea wind. Since the German Lifeguard
Association's boats weren't seaworthy, the swim was cancelled
and the triathlon turned into a duathlon.
In the beginning we were graced with a little bit of sunshine.
But soon, fun-time was over.
The tram brought the Everymen to the starting line. The distance
we were supposed to swim was to be run in knee-high water.
Shortly after that the active ones swung themselves onto their
bikes. Rain coats and wool sweaters were the number one choices.
On the way back, we took the boardwalk, because the weather
had made things slippery. This was fun to watch for the spectators
that had resolved to stand along the side of the track in
the mud.
Of course, vanity made the participants on the olympic distance
forgo any sort of warm weather clothing. After all, this isn't
a playground!
As usual, Leif was in a hurry to get to dry land.
In closing, I would like to say thank you to the organizers
of the event and the spectators, who cheered us on despite
the weather.
Hasta luego, Sabrina, Leif, Rainer
