While "Princess Yoni" Katrin Schwing and Alban Lakata
were already riding their practice laps around the MTB Federal
League track in Heubach, I was starting on the short distance
at the 2nd Katzenbuckel MTB Marathon, attended to by "Alfred"
Matthias Ball.
A short blow into "Alfred's" new whistle and a perfect
false start was almost launched...
Since the long-awaited rain only showed itself in isolated
drops, the track was extremely summerly. I would have been
able to see much better behind the lead group on the fast
descent, if I had been quipped with fog lights... after 3
laps and a lot of fun on the singletrails, I finished in 9th
place.
Afterwards, I was off to the MTB Federal League event in Heubach.
Matthias Ball immediately got on the track for an inspection
lap, but during the descent and cheered on by spectators,
he landed right on the downhill track behind the last starter
of the Hobby-Downhill-Race. After crossing the finish line,
he stood in front of me shaking in his boots: tomorrow there
will be bloodshed!!!
He himself was the first casualty of the day. Sunday morning,
we found him laying in his bed lifeless. He didn't feel well
and abstained from starting in the Master race. Katrin Schwing
was next. Her legs gave out and she left the track after the
first lap. The third candidate for an early demise was Alban
Lakata from Austria, whose legs turned to pudding in the middle
of the race and forced him to dismount...
Was all this due to the triple success at the Rocky Mountain
Bike Marathon in Riva del Garda last weekend???
Ramin Khoschud from the WellnessPower TREK Team was the only
one to score points at the Men's B advancement race. Katrin's
conclusion over cappuccinos in the Italian ice cream place
in Heubach: nothing but expenses!!!
