Black Forest Ultra Bike 2011

This year we wanted to participate again at the Black Forest Ultra Marathon, who´s annually in Kirchzarten, and I wanted to fight against my curse: Because every MTB-race over 100k I wasn´t able to  finish( limit of time, thunderstorm, bonk,…). And I thought riding the Ultra(117km with 3150m of altitude) in Kirchzarten would be good race for that. No sooner said than done, now the day could finally arrive, but before the race, I remarked that Thomas Büttner of the Pirates would start also( marathon distance 77km) and wrote him and asked if we wanted to met on friday. The first thing he did, he helped Jan and me, building up our tent, before it started to rain, thank you Thomas. In the evening, when Jan was honored for his 10th participation of the Ultra-marathon it was rainig cats and dogs. On Saturday we made an easy 2h tour to Freiburg,and met us with Thomas at Starbucks, just to ease up the legs before the start.. In the night from saturday to sunday it was raining of course, and so much, that I didn´t knew the next day, if I should start or not, but brave as I´m I pulled on my bike clothes, and I choose the best combination, the red pants, because it fits the best and the pink jersey, because it does have the biggest pockets and my new whit  one, I obviously wanted to wear, is still white. And my blue bike fits as well to my colored combination, but at this point, I didn´t know, that I would wore most of the time the black rain jacket… At 7:30 was the start, first we had to ride up the Hinterwaldkopfsattel (1100m), up there it was really cold. When some ice pellets began to fall down, I stopped for a moment and put on my rain jacket, and down at the Titi-lake came also some more wind, and Iknew for sure, that I would have give up, if I not had my rain jacket. I just fought it out, so in between I didn´t even remarked that it rained and enjoyed my self over the large amount of mud. When I reached the sign with the 100km, I cheered for a moment, aswell, when the sun came out for some moments, and finally after 7:20:58 I reached Kirchzarten again. Happy, dirty and wet. My bike was a little bit cleaner before the race, but my equipment was the best, nothing happened, because, it is one of my deepest wish, to changes tyres in the mud and by heavy rainfalls.. When I took a look on the list of results, I was even happier than before, I was on the 10th place overall and the 5th in my age-group, so I received some prize money aswell, it’s a kind of accolade for me. Now, a few days later my bike and myself are clean again and now the next race can come. Doro
