Triathlon in Kulmbach ...

... just a few weeks left until the 7th of august, now ist time to make yourself some thoughts about the race, your tactic, the equipment and the nutrition and to test it. Is their any place better to do like this than in Kulmbach??? It was the location, where we wanted to test everything and also to take a closer look at the contest course of the Ironman Regensburg and a few day to recover in the Bavarian Forest. Our bikes slept safe in the bike-hotel, while we were listening to the contest briefing the evening before the race, to get to know some more things about the race and also to test the beer of Kulmbach, another kind of carbo-loading. After the briefing, their were still a lot of thing not clear, because no one of the organizer could us tell how long the course really was, a little bit sad for a contest which is a German Championship. Normally in the age of GPS, should it be possible, or not??? A moring like in a dream, wonderful lake, blue sky, sunshine, a perfect triathlon day. But soon after the starting signal, you know, you were wrong. The swim course was interrupted by two times running on the shore, with 3 rounds to swim, and the strong men´s race started only 5min after the women´s race, it became after one third of the course to some kinds of water-boxing… For sure, we´re Pirates, we knoe how to defend ourselves – ATTACK - , but it isn´t nice like this, but finally we were happy about reaching the transition area without any damages. Just grab you bike and on the ambitious bike.course, this was the plan. But, soon after Reiner grabbed his bike, he remarked, that his bike-computer wasn´t their, were it should be. Brand-new, just 3months old, so back in the transition area to search it and after endless 5minutes he found it, broken… So, without the information, like heart frequence, speed or the length, Reiner made up his way. Whew…And after 2 ½ lonely rounds (88,5km) and 800m of altitude he reached the second transition in the goods depot of the brewery of Kulmbach, right between crates of beer, really nice place I gotta say. The last part, was the running part with a 10km long turning point course and a narrow lakeside path…wonderful course, but without any viewers or spectators… So, free your mind and the rest will follow, like the beer in the finish area… Maren 7th place AG and Reiner 43th place AG Greetings  Maren&Reiner
