Active female Pirate on Pentecost

It was the Bike-Marathon of the Ruhrgebiet, which attracted me, 107km and more than 2800m of altitude and all by MTB and not cyclor cross or roadbike. You could only book online but it was all sold out. But anyhow, the main important thing for me was the NRW CTF Cup, so, I went to the east part of Dortmund on Pentecost Sunday, to participate at the 19th Aplerbecker CTF ba the ASC Dortmund. Team Swine as usual.
But this time I was all alone, no one of my chicks wanted to attend me and again without any support by Pirates. But luckily, we´ve got the modern ways of communication and so I asked my virtual friends to attend me, and I found 4 of them. One mechanic of the Rockers Bikeshop, one merc of the NUTRIXXION Team ( Thomas), a cyclist calles Andreas from Bochum and Florian from the Apocalypse Dudes. Well, let´s get it started…

After a small talk, visit of the rest-rooms and receiving of our starting bags, we started at 10:15o´clock under best bikers weather conditions on the large round of 68km and 1250m of altitude. I was very impressed of the scenery, until that day I believed the “ POTT” is all black, brown and dirty, but its also green and it got mountains, even without the coal dumps or daylight mines, it was very hilly.

1st surprise: That we started very easy, but I felt a little bit uncortable, because it was my first time to lead a group like this, and soon we were attend by two more mixed teams. Ialso thought, better start easy, that you don´t waste your energy reserves, and I was the only woman. But don´t think to much, just follow the signs.

The first km`s were a constant up and down, on bitumen and on forest and meadows paths. And we rode on ways, where no one expected it to ride, maybe some who already know this area. It was a really good group, and I thought it could go on like this.

But after 12km Florian had a crash and kissed the ground, while we met on a sharp right turn, an old lady on the way. The poor, so, we slowed down a bit, because we didn´t want to rush, we wanted to enjoy and this together. Everything was fine, except the pollen. I didn´t like them.

I also would like to talk about the discipline of the participants, most of them act like a brute.
Sometimes it is the non verbal communications of some riders. But we had some funny stuff, like cyclist on left with no bell, or cyclist on the right hand side, with a beef roll in his hand. It was a small success….But back to the CTF…
We already had a larger group, now Andres and myself lead a group of 12 men and women and at km26, we reached the first check point. But they had no water and no food left, maybe because all of the participants stopped at this station. That was bad, no water on the long distance and the weather became more humidy. So, we checked our own supplies and changed the course to the middle distance of 48km and 1052m of altitude. It was better, even for the knee of Florian which hurt him very much after the crash.
As usually after a supply station, the way got uphill, that´s mean, first you got cookies, waffles, banana´s and more and then ascents, steep and more steep.  My stomach felt like I ate concrete and not half a banana, a cookie and some Haribo strawberries. But than finally it went downhill again, some of them were quite fast, but after downhill…uphill again, it felt like 26%. My pulse was still in the green area but the blood in my head kept hammering around. An awesome feeling.
Somewhere there should come some problems, yes, at km32, I had to suffer myself, I got cramps in my inner thighs, but I can arrange with them, but not with my crash, yes I kissed the ground as well, after a downhill combo of left, right, left right, left, I lost control on a muddy single trail, again there was a woman standing right in the lane, she had a tech nical problems with her bike, I just heard Andreas screaming and than I wanted to avoid a crash and than, I made a sharp turn, so I won´t hit her. I turned to the left and fell in the mud and in the stinging-nettles. Ouch, I fell on my left knee and on my shoulder. The first thing I mad was, to look at my bike, nothing broken, only the shifter was loose. Lucky me. That´s easy to fix, the only positive thing of that was, that I hadn´t more cramps after this crash. Finally we reached the 2nd control station at km34. Here we received some food and water and soon we rode on,  ow we were just 5, but soon we collected some groups ahead of us. At the end, it was only Andreas who could hold my speed. But at the end, we crossed the finish with a straight time of 3:00h for the 48km and 1052m of altitude. Not bad or?? The only bad thing was that my left knee and leg hurt and itched a  lot.

Coclusion: a wonderful contest. A really ambitious course, but to manage, with a wonderful scenery. Thank you…
Maybe the other Pirates who live will greet another Pirate, when they see each other??? Or better, we´ll participate together here. I´m sure, it would be nice….

Having said this:: Ahoy from the boat!
