Mönchengladbach Duathlon

Labor Day…That means, it is the 1st of May.
So, we worked, on our schedule for today, the Duathlon of Mönchengladbach, it would be my first time to participate here, the course would be all around the Nordpark Stadion.
And nevertheless, we had really good PIATE-WEATHER. Rain and wind, in fact nothing really special this year. I wasn´t the only Pirate to race here, Thomas, who participated the year before here, wanted to start aswell. And we had another Pirate, a Pirate by heart, a former Pirate… Niclas Bock “ Bocki”, who starts since this year for the “ Erdinger Alkoholfrei Team” and in the premier league for the KTT01, also wanted to enter the podium. Arrived, get the starting bag and check.in, a small talk with Bocki and Tom and soon the party started. At least the rain stopped, but the wind became more.
The first run was divided in two rounds  with each 2,5km, with a turning point, than you had to ride 4 rounds by bike with each 20km and than the running part again. Before the race I knew, I haven´t got the best legs today, because I was at the end of an 8day exercise block and really tired.
The start was at 10:00o´clock, first we got wind from behind until the turning point and than back again with head wind. I wanted to run every running km under 4min, the first and the second.

And Thomas, rigth at my tail…

Everythin went fine with my plan on the first running part, than I changd on my bike and on the wet bike course,  without changing the shoes, I had some baskets on my pedals

Flat? No way…it was hilly, a constant up and down, and the wind from behind, from the fron and of course from the side, but it went quite well, I found my rhythm, but it was a tough job, with my tired legs.

It felt like a good bike time and after a fast change I was on the running course again fort he last 2,5km. Damn it,old ship´skobold, I ran like on eggs, but when I checked my watch, it said, under 4, allright, not bad I thought. Coming back from the turning point, again head wind. Than I saw the finish line drew nearer and I thought again, it wasn´t that bad, because I did not see so many people waiting in the finish area.

Of course, no one besides Bocki, who ran into the finish, when I headed on my last round, we gave each other a high five and he won the race. When I came back, my dad told me that I was under the first 25. What, I thought, not with these legs?!?! But with my time of 1:04:10h I was on the 23rd place overall. Awesome. I had an average bike speed of 36,20km/h and I ran every km under 4minutes, okay only the first after the bike part was a little bit slower.

Small talk with the Pirate by heart and than I went home on my couch.
