The weekend after a 24h race is just for sleeping I thought, or maybe not? I was not yet in a good shape again, anyhow, I registered myself for a race right in front of my door, here in braunschweig, all around the Elm. I know the course, because I used to ride it often and we don´t have that much mountain, err hills here.
I havent´got lots of expectations of the race, I just wanted to ride it and to enjoy the fast speed of a road bike after this long weeks of riding my MTB.
The weather was all right. It was like a perfect summer day: Sun, blue sky and comfortable heat. I stood almost at the front line at the start, because I didn´t want to be involved in a mass start crash.
The start signal came and soon the speed of the field was breath taking. Soon I was passed a lot, but I didn´t care about it that much, because I didn´t ride my road bike for month. I just rode on. But than I found two other rider with an equal speed like mine. When we rode up the Elm, I took the lead, because I didn´t want to slow down that much. Later a team mate received some cramps and soon it felt like it in my legs as well. Than I was passes by faster ones, who yelled at me: Caro, take our wheels. Some mates from Göttingen, who want me to join them.
I knew that my muscles weren´t that good today, but anyhow I tried, but failed. Than I rode on with the other two riders. On the way back, our group grew up. Than after exactly 2h I crossed the finish line and became 7th overall and 3rd in my AG. I knew I should have take me the time regenerate some more, but I don´t regret it.
It was a nice race and at least I won a trophy…
