Logbuch Cape Epic 2008 fith entry

Hey People, Today the "BSN-Pirate" stands and all the other parttakers who are still in love with the longest stage of the 5 year long story of the "Cape-Epic" are partaking in: 146Km and 1819 Hm from Swellendam to Bredasdorp. It disnt sound so bad when it comes to hightmeters, but this stage sure was goin to be a challenge. First of all over 65 km was like a chase race, then it went down to the Indian sea we were all thinking; Great are we gunna swim a round? Which we did, although over 20km was in deep sand almost like quicksand.
Here we ate sand through a lotta corners. Afterwards it went down a really rocky downhill run, but we had a wonderfully refreshing wind and it was a much wider area to ride on. In Axel we found this poor guy from Hamburg, who lost his team partner somewhere and had to keep riding outside of the assesment. We decided to take him with us and we took turns riding ahead next to the wall, filled with bike- exited people right into the finish. Even this story is a big part of the "cape epic". Finish time for us was 8h 37m and 29s so all together 263 today. So a total time of 43h 18m 56s were already at the 330.All together we've pushed ourselves to the 211 place. If the 3 race stage was longer, you could congratulate us for the race's entire winn :-) Racetime: Its running better with captain ZimbO and first mate Raggebabe!
The winners today by the way are Stefan Sahm and Karl Platt from team "Bulls" with 5 hr 10m 52s. These two have been in a really hott race with team "Cannondale Vredestein" and team "Albgold" for the Overall Win. Were calculating that tomorrows race there will be a preliminary decision. But everything is possible here, one defect and the whole thing looks diffrent again. See below.

After Riding 5 stages we had some techincal difficulties. Defects: Chain lost 5 times, helping another competitor out of trouble, 3 flat tires (two of them were outside of the race though). Sevral loose screws and contstruction pieces may have been the cause of some of these flat tires. Bad weather and our usual bad suspensions. And a lost bottle holder, incuding the water bottle. So Knock on wood eh.
The pictures are from today, in between a sensatinal picture of our competitor team "Cannondale Vredestein" whos tubes went out right before the finish line and finished the race on rims. Equaling: 9 lost minutes. Well theres some impressions of the race and its enviroment.

For now, Ahoi from South Africa and keep keeping your figures crossed for us!

ZimbO & ReggeBabe
