Mornin
Everybody, heres my last entry about our 2008 ABSA Cape Epic
logbook. We have very mixed emotions about our last stage
because theres endless oppertunities of what this uncomparible
race may hold.
This morning at seven the world was still ok, we were looking
forward and happy for the upcoming finish and having breakfast
with Pia and Alison, the leaders of the womens division. Even
Pia had to admit that even she was exhausted from the events
and that even though she was ahead, worried about what was
ahead in the African sand. Unfortunetly a accident would happen
to her after the finish line, which already went around the
world by now. Ouch, that hurt.
From us: Pia, we wish that you get healthy fast with love,
get well and make sure you get back on your legs soon.
In the race afterwards, after just one kilometer we already
have throns visiting in our tire. When ever you have a defect
so early in a race, the ENTIRE field always comes Swooshing
by and after we finally replaced the tube, we were all the
way in the back, and I mean really in the back, wanna say
about 20cm from the broom squad.
So now: the catching up hunt
This ended up only taking one kilometer and on the side stood
a lonly Rotwild rider from Bayern, who I met the day before
in the Press confrence center. We ended up not wanting to
leave the poor guy alone so we assisted him with replacing
his chain after it slipped in the most awkward position a
chain can slip, between the spokes and sprockets, which we
know happens to be every bikers nightmare, especially in a
race. In the mean time Frank heard about my mishab and we
began our catching up mission with the three of us: Axel,
our companion since stage 5. (Team Bike 4 Carity), Frank and
I then rode a rather descret rather up untuil about the five
kilometer mark.
At this point the smell of the freshly printed finisher T-shirt
was already in our noses, we then went into our daily finish
attack mode, which was about 300 meters from the end and suddenly
the rae took an interesting turn. I managed to quickly wake
my team mates right out of theyre dreams, with a capitol rollover
right before the finish line. Thank goodness nothing happend
and we were then able to cross the finish line with no problems.
So that was it.
Thank you so much for reading with us and crossing your fingures
for us.
Since now is the time to thank everyone we would like to get
it over with:
