On Sunday, August 7th 2007, the time had come.

It was the second game day of the DPL 5 Man. This time, the game led us to Büchenau (you really get to see Germany as a paintballer). We had respect for this day, days beforehand. This time it wasn't like the first. We arrived that morning, due to the change in procedure. We weren't able to play until 10am and had to take a lunch break from noon to 2pm, because of the residents of the area.

Even during our descent from Oberhausen, it appeared it would be a warm, humid day and it was. When we arrived in Büchenau, we found a few tables and benches and stowed away our bags. At this point the sun was still shining, which was reason enough to set up our shade-lending umbrella. After that, we got our markers for the day ready. No sooner said than done and suddenly we were on the field, taking some time to develop a strategy. All of the Fast 'n' Deadly boys that would be playing ran around the field and checked out the cover, figuring out how they would play it.

The team captain meeting was over and we were off. The Pirates Hirsel, Arsch, Basti, Bratfisch and Daniel were ready to rock the day, but, due to a mishap, one of our players was marked by one of his teammates in the very first game and was out. So, the game ended differently than planned and we quickly discussed what had gone wrong after the game, so we wouldn't make the same mistake twice. Things went better in the next few games and then we faced our feared opponents, the Stuttgart Harlekins. Unfortunately, we lost and then came our lunch break (way too long). At 2pm on the nose, we resumed play. Our first game after the break didn't go as planned either and then we played our favorite opponents, the Paintstorms, but because of a mistake during the breakout, only four of us were left standing. We bravely hung on, but it just wasn't our day.

The games were over and we packed our things and cleared our area. Then we waited for the award ceremony.

It was already clear to some of us that our goal of making it to the top three would be hard or impossible to fulfill. They announced the places and, lo and behold, we came in a close fourth. We concluded: practice, practice. We'd like to say thanks to our fellow travelers Chris, Ede and Andy, who stood on the sidelines the whole time and supplied us with new paint immediately after every game, so that the players didn't have to worry about it and were able to concentrate. Thanks guys. And so, we are feverishly looking forward to the next DPL game day, where we'll turn everything around.
