On July 8, 2007, the time had come once again: it was time
to conquer the Erbeskopf. Well, this time there was nothing
much to conquer, since a bad cold threw a monkey wrench in
my plans….!
When I was finally sort of healthy again, I had about a week
to get myself sorted out. Shit happens… Whatcha gonna do….?
The starter fee had been paid long ago, so I better do this
thing!
I"ll just mark it off as "a paid for tour that just happens
to include time measurement and a bunch of other participants"….!
As if I hadn't suffered enough, I was visited by good old
Aunt Insomnia in the middle of the night: I finally passed
out around midnight, only to wake up around 3 in the morning
and stay up - great, well, at least I can have a nice leisurely
breakfast! Damn it!
At least I was able to doze a little between 5 and 6am. And
when my alarm finally rang - as was to be expected - I was
nice and tired again and ready to sleep. The brand new 2007
team outfit that came in the mail, from Ron, yesterday, just
in time for the event, acted as a small band-aid - Thanks
Ron, it made my suffering a little more bearable. ;-)
Of course I still tried to do well in the race and it went
alright for the first 25m/40km, but then I had to start letting
more and more people pass me. This meant that I ended up in
an honest 124th place (419 finished for the overall ranking,
which wasn't divided into divisions: hobby, licensed and pros
were all ranked together), which was fought for with a lot
of sweat and love for the club.
By the way, the weather was great and, in my opinion, the
track was marked off more clearly than last year.
