The answer can be found in the article!! Fuerteventura in February: I enjoyed it last year, why not go in for a repeat?? This time my event manager made arrangements at the Oasis Papagayo in Corralejo.

The trip hit an abrupt snag, due to Neckermann's proposed price for the transportation of the bikes to the hotel (25.-€), which should pose no problem for a Pirate! We simply commandeered a taxi van and saved a few Euros for coffee and cake.

After moving our stuff into the apartments, I hoisted the flag.

We quickly found an appropriate bar too.

Sometimes a wall has to suffice.

Whoever rides their bike without complaint...

… is rewarded with cake. This was consumed at the Café LA OLA at the harbor of Corralejo with a view of the Isla de Lobos..

We ran into some whales during swim training in the 130ft/40m pool.

Since none of the Pirates of the "black gang" could be found for the MTB Marathon…

… I stormed the dunes of Corralejo for a ½ marathon, in defiance of death and in the name of the PINK PIRATE TRIATHLON TEAM.

I ran into an "old" Pirate at the finish line. Heiko sends his greetings to all Pirates and hopes to see some of you next year at the MTB Marathon.

In addition to running and swimming, of course biking was our top priority. We rode all over the island with Karsten, pedaling at high and low frequencies, adjusting the gears to our needs. Naturally it was "only" basic training!!!

Considering the gas prices, we really should have been driving…

…but there are other ways to fill up…

…of course only because of the dehydration caused by the strenuous training!!

Bjørn of the Flensburg "trias" and his girlfriend Angelika, joined us on the "Island of Pain".

He even wanted to enjoy the run through the dunes with me

The Hotel of Terror had nothing to do with our (female) company, but with the quality of the food served in our training accommodations. The well-maintained landscaping, large salt-water pool and, not to be forgotten, Anja from reception, were the plus factors of the hotel. Conclusion: okay as a base camp for training, considering the price, if you just take care of yourself and spend little time at the bar.
