Groundhog Day. Once again, I am caught in the time cycle of
La Gomera. Check out my ultimate diary.
January 2: my day begins relaxed at a pulse of 130 on the
streets of Vueltas. Up the Valle Gran Rey to about 3937ft/1200m
and then a lap on the slopes....
Like on January 3rd, I gathered speed on the countless turns
in the final descent into the Valle Gran Rey, until the hand
peaked at 50mph/80km/h...
Most of the time, like on January 4th, I hung out with the
freaks in La Playa on the boardwalk with yummy cake and café
con leche, after training. This guy plays a bad-ass device:
a "Hang" percussion instrument in the form of a UFO, from
Switzerland. Awesome...
January 5: every night during the ingestion of fodder, which
is delicious at the many restaurants here in the Valle Gran
Rey on Gomera, the photo show takes place all around the Trainee-Prince
Bernd of the MTB group from Karlsruhe...
January 6: the street up to the Ermita Tres Reyes is decorated
for Epiphany, where the little Gomeros get their presents.
Nothing changed for me. The distance up to the trails remained
the same...
January 7: this is the picture we saw every night. A sweet
sunset, sometimes with a view of El Hierro. By the way, the
hippie-drummers on the beach managed to drum the sun into
the sea every night...
January 8: sometimes dark, dank, dreary clouds of the trade-fog
clung to the mountains, like here in El Cercato at 3609ft/1100hm
on the way to Garajonay National Park, which was admitted
as a protected cultural asset to humankind by UNESCO...
January 9: the time has come. All the hippies in La Playa,
the smell of Doradas, cruising at high altitude, cannabis
products in the air, beef filets at the Malaysians, massages
with Julia, let me call it über-training...
January 10: but then the day began with café con leche at
the Mango in La Playa again. Afterwards, I pedaled up the
street and turned onto the trail… Groundhog Day!!!
January 11: after about 261m/420km and 39370ft/12000hm on
the mountain bike, today was a day of rest. A birthday breakfast
at my Trainee-Prince and Hobby-Pirate, from the MTB group
from Karlsruhe, Bernd's place and then "only" 1.5 hours of
yoga in the Finca Argayall, the "Place of Light"...
Caught in the time warp!!!
