The cross-duathlon has a track that appeals more to the runners,
since the 25% inclines on the 1.5m/2,5km track were pretty
intense.
The bike track on the other hand is kind of boring for real
mountain bikers (which I am not). We had a 3.1m/5km run, 10m/16km
mountain bike ride and another 3.1m/5km run ahead of us. The
64 starters made things pretty crowded. You wouldn't see that
many starters, in northern Germany, for an all mountain biking
event. After the first 3.1m/5km, I got on my bike in 9th and
was able to make up a place.
I passed one other guy on the last run and finished 7th. The
duathlon was also the Hamburg Championship. I came in 4th
and was first runner-up to the champion in my age division.
A little laugh in closing. About a mile before the end of
the race, I totally wiped out. So, at the finish line, I was
all dirty and everyone gave me funny looks.
