Better late than never… Report on the Hirschberg MTB Marathon
2007... Despite my freshly healed torn ligament, I rode the
long distance. You don't need feet for that, unless you plan
on getting off the bike.
Ubi was there too and up to no good on the short distance
(21st overall/3rd division).
The three laps of the long distance made up 55m/89km and 8202ft/2.5khm.
I had to get used to the mountain bike again on the first
lap. By my skills were back on lap two.
The results showed that I had been active exclusively as a
tri-athlete (and had actually already ended my season): 15min
slower than last time, but I still came in 21st overall and
6th in my age division.
Hirschberg is just a traditional season ender and a nice track
that many underestimate.
Unfortunately the spectators were pretty disinterested, which
contributed to the feeling that the event had not gotten much
exposure.
It seems as though the escapades of the street pros are beginning
to have side effects. Anyway ... I am now focusing on recovery,
followed by preparation for the Ironman 2008 in FFM!
Take care,
