21.07.2007, olympic Distance A wonderful event! Quickly signed
up for a late-number and off into the wetsuit.
In order to become a Roman 2007 one must first travel upstream
with a boat. Imagine a cruise with 400 girls and guys clad
in rubber.
At some point the boat turns 180 degrees to avoid any mutilations
and then all go over board.
At a line of balloons across the river all then wait for the
gun. I found swimming in the Neckar quite pleasant. Hardly
any dogfights. After 1.8km, helpful hands helped the athletes
out of the water. Amazing how dizzy one feels.
The bike course goes out into the Odenwald and is spiced with
two respectable climbs. Amazingly cool 42km! The 10km running
track was a bit tight due to traffic coming ahead but nevertheless
an appropriate track. I had to go conservative on this part
since I was still curing a knee syndrom. Therefore I had to
let go a few positions of my good bike result. Quite amusing
- A pink jersey suddenly coming ahead: Nina from Heidelberg-
Shouts!
Considering this to be my second tria-event, I was pleased
with my result: 51. of 357 Men, 12. Age Group - 2:29:30 (23:44/1:21:55/43:50)
Next event to come is Wiesbaden 70.3! I've inspected the bike
course: Hot shit!
