Last sunday in was the 2nd Nostalgia-Bike-World Campionship
2009 in Maibronn – St. Englmar. Everyone could participate
who had an old bike with no shifting gear and you had to wear
old historic stuff. You had to ride a 2km round course with
a fast downhill part and a steep uphill, you had to go for
two rounds.
The backdrop was breathtaking, you felt like you still were
in the alte thirties. No matter if you´re young or old, men
or women, doing biking just for fun or if you´re a licence
rider, everyone wore leather pants, a dirndl dress or some
other kind of oldcostume. You started like the start in “
Le Mans”, well lined up in queues. You had to run to your
bike just after the starting signal and than jump on it and
let it go…
Directly at 10:00AM was the start for this years Noastalgia
–World Championship, opened by the former rally legend Walter
Röhrl. A man from Regen, Jörg Raithmeier started for the Racing-Team-Pirate-Hamburg,
in earlier days he won a few MTB and roadbike races, he had
quite a good start and was in the leadind group just from
the beginning. After the first round he was on the 2nd place,
which he could hold almost until the end of the race. The
leader of this race was the current junior European Champion
in triathlon. But just before Raithmeier could finish 2nd
this race, he had to do a finish sprint with one of his opponents.
He finished 3rd, although it was a fun race, “my mid thighs
were bursting and I coughed my lungs out”,said Raihmeier shortly
after the race. Cause you had no shifting gear, you had to
ride downhill with almost an average cadence of 120/min to
get forward and uphill you standed on your pedels like a dancer
to move a fw inches forward with your 30kg bike.
Naturally you could go a little bit more faster if you were
allowed to use a bevel wheel and if you get off some ballast
of the bike, to save some weight, but that’s not the goal
of this tournament. The biks should be original, to save the
worthiness of the bikes, said the man from Regen. The bike
from Raithmeier was an old “Deutschland”out of the thirties.
Jörg had to clean the bike the day before the race to get
all the dust from it and to make it ridable.
After all, it was a really funny event for all bike-sports
amniacs, don´t care if you´re supporter, viewer or a participant.
Awesome good backdrop, perfectly organization and a goog programm
feature. The starters had to give their best, and it was a
good alternation for my this year MTB and roadbike races,
said our man from Regen.
Raithmeier Jörg!
