This is me, participating at the Triple-Ultra- Triathlon-World-Champoinships 2010 in Germany
At first, I´ll to to say thank you to my sponsors: Bedanken möchte Ich mich beim meinen Sponsoren : www.Pirate.biz , www.mahag.de , www.fussundfit.de , www.uvex.de , www.squeey-sports-nutrition.com . And everyone, who wants to know it: ... YES, I DID IT...PHAT, PHAT, PHAT…

This old and taditionell event in Lensahn/ Schleswig-Holstein was the official World Championship in Ultra-Triathlon, the Triple Ironman-Distance. 11,4km of swimming, 540km of bike and afterwards 126,6km of running. Altogether 678km, without a brake. The distance is equal to the way from Munich to ???, I don´t know, at least very far...and this distance I competed and completed, myself Jens Wolter from Munich born in Kiel, with a time of 54hours and 16minutes, with the only doing by muscular strength.

The first “ cut off “ ( disqualification because of taking too much time) is after 6hours, after 6 hours, every athlete had to be finished with the swimming in the 50m pool. My time was 4 hours and 5 seconds.

The second cut off time is after 32h. Whenever you´re still sit on your bike and didn´t finish the 540km will be get out of the race and is allowed to take a shower. My time was 30hours.

The last cut off will be with the end of the event after 58hours, so you have 16hours for the running and the last 126,6km.

I´m totally pround about it, to were allowed to participate on a Triple-Ultra-Triathlon, because their are very hard rules and qualification for it. There are only 3 competition in the world of this kind, and the average numbers of starters on each event are around 30.

Last year I did lots of endurance competitions, for example: 12hours od spinning, 3 marathons, 6h-run, 100km run of Biel as well like un countable starts at olympic distance triathlons and of course I finished the Ironman Austria/ Klagenfurt, These are some of the qualification barricades for the start in Lensahn, an other point is, several check ups by doctors, as well like acception of the internation doping controls before the start( the allowance for your start were combined with it.

We were 49 participants from 3 different nation, for example Brasilia, Swiss, France, Hungary and Italy. Germany was the country with the largest number of starters. I thought about a week or more if I should registrate for this event, even for the registration you need some bravery. Just to know, that you´ve been qualified and that I´m be able to compare your strength, power and endurance with all the best of the world in this extreme sport, is something special, because lots of triathletes even fail to compete/complete the Ironman-distance of 3,8km swim, 80km bike and a marathon of 42,95km running. As important like your own fitness for the race is the supporting staff. It should be at least made of two persons. My supporting team was made out of my family, my wife Carmen ( she´s as well a ERFAHRENDE Ultra-runner) and my son Mirco ( he likes to swim).
Both of them supported me for the 54h around the clock. It started with the physical applications, which my wife learned very much thru the years and ended with the support of the equipment.
At this point I like to say a special thank you to Ron from PIRATE. As well like the mental support ( because the head is important, he makes at least 50% of the contest with the inner temptation). And the mental strength is really important, because at least 10% of all starters in Lensahn quit the race before finishing, because of absolute weak and tetherless or because of physical problems.
All my preparations in 2010 went well like a schedule. In march I started up with my first 6h run, only 5 days later on a 2h spinning marathon…just to get a feeling. On Pentecoste I rode by bike from Munich to Trento, about 320km plus the meters of altitude. Than I made several units of swimming up to 3hours, like this I GEWÖHNEN for the longer units. My total amount of exercising this year was about 50h of swim, 200h bike and 30km of running. I started this race with the goal of just “ finishing”. Now I´m really proud of it, to complete this event in a overall time of 54h and 6minutes and to reach the 36th place overall.
I think, I did it all perfectly, from the stsrt to the finish, thanks again to my supporting team Carmen&Mirco. While I was doing this contest, I divided the whole course in smaller units, like the swimming in 1h units, or the bike part in 80km and than 180km again. The marathon I divided into half-marathons and so I made my way to the finish, and I only had after all two small blister on my feet.

A proud finisher of the Triple-Ultra World Championships
