17h, 350km´s and lots of pain…

My first and lost conquer of the Alps was over 9years ago, so I decided to ride a MTB-trip for a few days. We searched, we found and we decided us to participate at the “ Eifel-Höhen-Tour”.

We were able to travel their as well by bike. The course went over 230km and more than 2500m of altitude, but it was badly post-signed. Sounds not bad, but with our choice, we had 300km and two overnight stay.

The first was travelling from Jülich to Heimbach, across the Rur-Shore-Bike-Path. After 50km we made the first brake, when we finally arrived in HEimbach we searched for more than half an hour a bakery, who´s open on a Friday afternoon and another half an hout, to find the beginning of the Eifel-Höhen-Tour.

Later that day we reached Monschau, where we took a longer brake to refrsh our strength. After that brake it was hard to get back on our bikes but we still had 35km to ride, to Kaltherberg, near the Belgium frontier, for our first accommodation.

For the first stage about 113km we needed 5:52h, but the first hurts came after 3h, but they were only at the buttock. Riding slow with a MTB with luggage was more than 9 years ago and my last MTB-trip for more than 6h was in the middle of the 2000.

Conclusion after the first day, it was a wonderful course with pain. Our first motel, is something like cultic, it was called “ The Stag”. The interior was a tleast out of the early 80´s, but we think maybe a little bit older…

Really interesting was the fact that the basin got two faucets, one for cold and the other for hot water.
Besonders interessant war auch das Waschbecken mit einem Wasserhahn für Kaltwasser und einem für Warmwasser. The very next day, we started with wonderful weather conditions for our 2nd stage.

Our goal for today was Marmagen, I never heard about it before…

But we don`t care about this, after we passed Vollem and headed towards Urfey, we thought Marmagen could`t surprise us that much and after 125,86km and 6:05h we found it.

The 3rd stage was the highlight of the tour, it was the shortest stage with 110,67km and 5:07h, but only 15km away from our home, I had to get off my bike totally exhausted to enter the mini-golf-parc, to get me some candy´s, coke and ice-cream. During our trip, we found some strange signs….

…they told us, that there must be some PIrates here before us and maybe the digged here there treasures…
Some helpful hints….

Really important is that sign, because, they don´t write anything about riding is forbidden…

So,you don´t get in trouble with the pedestrians…LOL.

We arrived at home on time and the first thing we did, was to BBQ to relax and recover of the last 349,63km and 17:06h and 3days.

Happy Days
