At the beginning of the year, when we made our plans and schedule for the season of 2011, Reine and mayself decided to compete on a duathlon, sounds easy: just run, than cycle a little bit and than run again for cooling down. We wanted it like this, a wish of a Pirate-bride.

When we rode on the bike course before, to get to know it( special thanks to my Pirates), I knew my wishes wouldn´t become true -  it wouldn´t be a nice easy roadbike trip thru the Neandertal...

The very next morning: I almost forgot the ambitious bike course over night. So, we went with a really good temper towards Mettmann, searching for a parking lot, check-in of the bikes and met some team-mates.
It was a really nice get to know, with the other Pirates and the time just passes by, and soon Pirate Thomas from Solingen and Robert “chiKKen” from Jülich started on the course.
And after one round in the stadium, we lost track of them in the forest of Mettmann and they had to fight the way on their own towards the first places of their age-groups.

5 minutes later, we started, it was a 5km turining point course, right thru a wonderful city-forest, and the constant up and down caused your circulation on maximum in really short time, but sometimes you have to run in the red and off the scale.

A little bit exhausted we came back to the transition area, fstly changed your running to buike shoes and started for the second part of the duathlon. But, it wasn´t the 17% ascent who bothered me that much, like in the night in my nightmares... No, it was the long and neverending ascents…
Soon, I compensated, that I rather be passed than to pass the others, I was ready to enjoy the bike course.
Some sightseeing, is not bad, or???

The other Pirates yelled very loud from the side and aupported us, when I reached the transition area again, overhappy, just to put back my runnings shoes on after 75minutes, I went on the last part, a nice and small 2,5km round. I just had the finish-line before my inner eye, and so everything went like on its own, and after a short ascent, the way leead finally again to the stadium, where all the other Pirates waited cheerful for us to finish. At this point I gotta say thank for all the others, waited for me for so long…
