German Championships on the middle distance

On sunday was the start at 9:00o´clock for the German Championships over the middle distance. It took part in Kulmbach, Bavaria. I felt really good and fresh before the race and ready for having a good day, I haven´t expected it, after my half challenge in Barcelona the week before, but I havent´got anything against it. So, starting signal and 2km of swimming in the lake of Trebgast. The good feeling went on, and I went with some seconds in advance as the first on the bike-course. My plan went good as planned, I wanted to give everything I got on  the swim part, that I can begin the race from the front, and so the other athletes got to look on myself, and not contrary. I took the good feeling from the swimming, on the bike-course, and obviously it should become a good day after all, now I had to ride 88km with about 900m of altitude, and I didn´t want to wait for so long, so, I pushed the pedal really hard, just from the beginning. Because I didn´t want to burst on the ascents, I controlled a bit my young carelessness, and it worked. In the meanwhile, my sister and my coach, told me the gap between me and the others, first it wa 4min and after 20km it grew up to 5min and when I reached the 2nd transition area, it was 6min to the 2nd…YES, my plan worked so far…. The good feeling went on, on the running course, but things became harder after 12km and at 15,5km and after 3 1/2h at the top of the German Championships, Stefan Schmid passed me, and only moments Stefan Schmid again passed me and I was on the 3rd place. Yes, you read right, the guys had the same name, but weren´t twins, when Schmid nr.1 passed me, I thought, whew, what a running style and how easy. Respect guys, and gratulations to you…! Finally I ended up on the 3rd place overall, but 1st in my age-group TM20, and I also became a German Champion with my team “ Kölner Triathlon Team”. On the one side, I´m happy with my race,the swim and the bike part, went really good, but something still missing on my running part, but this will come with the races thruout the year and of course the with the years, because I was youngest starter of the event aswell. But this results are not to overestimate, because all the big german triathlons strs, weren´t at the start, and I should make me some illusions, but in a few years maybe, if everything will go on like this…Just wait and exercise and than I´ll be maybe on the step, like Kienle,Raelert  nad co, at this moment… So…take it easy and exercise, there are lots of things to do…   Niklas Bock
