It´s time again, for the OSTSEEMAN…

As always in the last 5 years, at the first weekend in August, it´s time for the 10th Ostseeman in Glücksburg, SH.

But this year, everything should be different, because my exercise was reduced to the minimum necessary to survive and to endure a Long-Distance-Triathlon. And prpeared like this I travelled with my family( Maike and Finja 6month old) in our new pimped family car for a long weekend to Glücksburg. Accommodation as always with a full board residential all inclusive to my parents in Flensburg.

Like I mentioned before only with the minimum exercise which is needed to stay alive ( 1x bike,1x swim and 2x of running a week), I went in good cheer and quite relaxed to the swim start early in the morning on Sunday the 7th of august 2011. I was really relaxed bacause I just wanted to finish and surviveand not to race for a new personal best time.

Their was a really nervous and enraged mood in the transition area shortly before sunset, because we had heavy winds and the swell was quite high. But it was still time to talk some rubbish with the other Pirates on the start ( Hakan, single and Berjan and Enrico, relay). Later on the running course I met Reiner Cordes as well.

Than it was time for the countdwon for the swim start of 3,8km. This time I started from far behind and not as usually from the first row, you can watch it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLSTKzKLDn8

And after 1:06h, for myself I very slow swim time I made my way to enter the bike course and the 180km on a 30km long round course you have to ride 6times. Because of my exercise dificit, I started not to easy, but not to fast as well, so I still had some time to talk to some friends which I passed on the bike course..

Sadly I wasn´t very attentive and so I recieved a suspension of 8minutes, because I passed to slow. I didn´t care much about it, so I got some more time to recover after the bike course for the running course. I reached the transitiona area again after 5:56h, including suspension and…well, a longer visit of the rest room, because I suffered with problems in my digestive tract, during the last round.

Anf after my 8min break after the bike, I was able to getting started for the marathon, a course you had to run 5times and each approximately 8,4km long.

The first round I needed to get warm and find my very own running style, during the 2nd round I was attended by Capt´n Speed and at the end of round three, the problems began with my muscles and with my digestive tract. Now, I had to visit regulary the rest rooms and in the middle of the 4th round I started to walk in between. In the 5th and last round I met Reiner Cordes and we changed a few words of encouragement.

Finally after 11:29h the finish was in sight and shortly before the finish, Capt´n Speed hand over me our team-flag and so I crossed the finish line after 11:30h, with our Pirate flag waving high in the wind and a marathon time of 4:27h, happy but totally exhausted.

Having said this: It was a fantastic weekend and again an awesome contest ( www.OstseeMan.de ), which I only can recommend you to participate. Tell me where you have a swim-mass-start in an ocean, a windy, hilly and ambitious bike and running course right outside your front door…??? But you gotta hurry, because, the contest is really fast  booked up.

PS: Even of my “ slow” time, I made it and won the National Championship of Hamburg in my age-group ( M35).

Enjoy you rst of the season 2011 and stay healthy….

Greetings
