Robby and Beni: Pirates at the Championchips of Germany

On Friday morning we started for our trip to Klein Machnow, we started early because we wanted to get there on time for the “free training “ on the course and even though my race was on Sunday, I was really nervous. After all Ive been laped last year by Sabrina Schweizer and when I tried to remember the course, I thought about an ambitious, energy -sapping and really technical course.
During the exercise we got some drizzle, but the training went quite well, and I really fell in love with the course. You got really long muddy meadows, sandy downhill sections, nice technical forest parts with short ascents and wonderful turns, lots of sand and of course the running sections. Well, like a picture book for crossing...
Luckily I had enough clothes with me for changing, because you became dirty all over again, especially on the next day, when my sweetheart got his race and later as well at Jost´s race.
Ontime for the start, we got drizzle and later some sunshine. At the starting line about 90 highly motivated senior riders as well like Robby K. Schwedler, Danno and two of the guys from Bern. Robby K. had one of his best starts ever, and placed himself right behind Jens, Danno tried to pass him, but he did a somersault on the un-ridable meadow and so, Jens and Robby K. were the first to enter the forest and the sand hill.

Sadly, the two guys from Bern were in quite a good shape and were able to pass Robby, but they still were in sight, but he wasn´t able to close the gap between them, one reason is, his gear weren´t the best today. Than shortly before the finish, Danno tried to get past Robby as well, and so, we saw one really fascinating final spurt. As you know the finish is 2m behind the line and while Danno just rolled into the finish, Robby K. pushed his pedals really hard and were able to defend his 4th place. Damn it, I was really proud. That day I was nothing but a supporter and just to focus and concentrate on race day.

On Sunday morning we were the first to reach the course and so we were able to ride the course three times to get to know it better. At the start, I placed myself right behing Sabrina Schweizer and next to Agnes Naumann in the 2nd row. Starting signal and off we go... Soon I changed the rear wheel from Sabrina to Trixi Worracks and rode on the outer track on the meadow, where I was able to pass some, while I was running and on the the top of the hill, I was in 4th position and was a little bit scared about it.

Somehow, there was a pecking order again and I rode in a group with Walker Olbering, Jessica Lambracht and Susanne Juranek..

Sadly I soon lost sight of Susanne and shortly before the finish, Jessi and Nicole were able to pass me and so, I finished 6seconds behind Jessi and ended up on the 10th place right before Agnes Naumann and Lisa Heckmann and was really excited about it. Small gap to the front and a large gap to the places behind me and this, in front of so many spectators, supporters and Pirates....

Next weekend is sadly the last cyclo-cross-race of the year, but I´ll attack again next  year.
