Biggest Beach-Race of the Benelux-countries in Egmond/Netherlands an Zee

“Agusport” got a new record participation at the biggest Beach-Race in Benelux for the MTB-race. Riding your MTB on the beach??? It´ll work after some preparations. But with the knobbly tyre, you won´t get forward on the ebach, so what to do? Changing the whole wheels and get on some kind of balloon tyres? One mechanic told to ride only with 1,2bar. Than we got lots of wind and riding a flat tyre, only strong legs can help you and riding with aero-bars. So, I fixed a longer stem on my bike.

On Saturday the 07.01.2012 it was time fort he race. There were about 3900 participants for the race.

After an easy round on the beach promenade we rode towards the beach. The sand made it impossible to ride, so grab your bike on your shoulder and walk...

Down, at the oceans shore,it was quite better to ride, while the sand was more compact and you were able to ride at higher speed.

I knew, that we later would get headwind, so I tried to helt my speed high. After some pushing passages, I was passed by the Dutch Amazon at km26, where I rode in the wind shadow on the way there. But now the bikers split, because the wind now came from slope ahead and from the ocean.

The rider stayed close together, so it came to some crashes and sometimes you had to ride into the ocean to avoid an accident.

At the final spurt towards the finish, I was really powerless, maybe I lost it, in the ocean??? Afer 1:42:03h I crossed the finish line.
Conclusion: The trip to the NEtherland was worth it. It was an abnormally race with some weird facts that won´t fit together: wind, winter, beach, ocean and MTB…
Grade : recommendable
