You´ve got mail: German Mail Service Marathon in Bonn at the 22.04.2012 –

Great things already cast their shadow ahead…the half-marathon in line with the German Mail Service Marathon in Bonn.

After the City-run of Düren and the run „ around the cross of Bayer“ as preparations, I participated at the city-run of cologne as a last test-run, just to be sure, that I can hold the speed and it worked. It was a good choice to change my exercise schedule, the first results I harvested in Leverkusen but now I was sure, that it was worth it, and when I did a test at the “Institute for Performance Diagnostics and Performance Optimization for Competitive Athletes”, they confirmed it, too.
Until now my personnal best time over the half marathon distance was 1:46:05h, I ran it on the 06.08.2012 in Rostock.
My last longer run and my last intervall training weren´t the best, now I know, where I made the mistake.

Early on Sunday morning I woke up and ate my breakfast at 4:45o´clock, so it won´t bother me during the race and at 6:17o´clock, my train departed to Cologne.

When I arrived in Cologne , I recieved the first shock, where was my chip??? Damn it, un-pack the bag and...Phew, there it was, hide itself in my running shoe, but now I was awake, for sure. Tha I took the next train to Bonn, it was quite busy the train, and lots of the passengers gor weird yellow bags...maybe they got the same goal as I am???

Most of them, weren´t in a good mood…oh no, it was a potato in their mouth…

All awake??? The post (wo)-men got their own amusement.

Well…where can I depose my clothes? Err…here we got, there it is….
…and just 4 toilets fort he whole people? That can be funny…

Warming up and now I need to find the red starting box….

Damn, it´s cold…well, warming up by freezing and shivering, just 3 minutes to go…

Did I just said, only 3 minutes? For the first starting wave, just line up and wait´n freeze...

09:00o´clock: Finally, it´s our turn, it´s really narrow out there in the front, so heading to the left side and pass all of them, after 500m the first curve, on eis behind me, now find your pace. I want torun 4:30min/km in the first part, heading for the first bridge over the Rhine...Err...no wind, allright, fits with my clothes. When i reached 2km, I take a look at my watch, damn, 14 seconds to slow...I gotta keep an eye on it, when I reach km3, still 14seconds, allright. When I got to the next bridge at 7,5km I see the blue balloon of the pacemaker in the starting group ahead of me. Now I´m staisfied, I´m on time for running the half-marathon in1:35h. Running further alongside of the Rhine, still no wind. Last turn around point, only 2 seconds behind my schedule, now it´s time to find my pace again when I got to the 17km mark, but easy....when I came to the 18km I look ahead of me and: Hey, I know you, a good friend of mine, waving hand for a short time while passing and keep on pushing, I check my watch 4:18/4:20 allright. 19km mark, not slow down, get it on...
When I reach the 20km it´s time for the final sprint, still some power left, just pass one more and a look at the watch: 1:34h and counting...

Yellow carpet, archway…now, get it on...

I cross the finish line 1:34:31h YES....
First I check my watch and than I´m really proud of myself. I did it and all alone, without my very own pace-maker like in Düren or in Leverkusen...
I reched my first goal of the season. My exercise was worth it, and don´t let the talk bad of you or about you kind of way. You know what you´re up to.
It´s an awesome feeling...calculating, well, I was 11:34min faster. I now I gotta say thank you to all my supporters and friends: Dietmar Lürken, Bernd and Anja Göbbels  and Robert Dreyling..
Well, do you remember the runner who ran behind me shortly after the start??? We changed positions throu out the run.He finished 30seconds behind me and the first thing he did, after he crossed the finish line, was to walk to me and to shake my hand. That´s the spirit of the sport and fairness. I was deeply impressed and hapy about it...
