MTB mountain race in Kyffhausen at the 14.04.2012

One week after the Easter weekend we travelled with the Pirate-Kangoo to Thuringia, to the eastern part of Germany, to participate at the MTB-race of the BLV Kyffhausen. Hey made up something new and presented us two course, one long distance with 64km and one short distance with 21,5km, as well like humane starting times. It was the first race this year for us and so we decided to start on the short distance. We also saw some other Pirates, participated at this race.

We all three wanted to ride the short distance and King Barberossa promised us good weather conditions. The mountain race is well known for its steep ascents up to 17% and crazy downhil section with up to 18% decline and a speed of up to 60km/h. The ground wasn´t that hard to ride, except some exceptions, we rode most of the time on forest trails, it should become a fast race. We got high goals, but we thought we could manage them...

At the first ascents I was stucked behind a large group and wasn´t able to pass them, so I stayed behind them and decided to pass them later and after a few km´s the group seperated and I was able to get away from the group with two other riders. I had to show them, what a Pirate is made of, and accelerated before the finish a bit and were able to get rid of one of them.

I wanted to finish faster than 1:10h and made it by minutes and became 23rd in my age-group and 80th overall.

Christian improved himself very much and finish with a time of 1:17:44h and  became 129th overall and 30th in his age-group.
It was quite a good start of the season and lots of races will follow.
We like to wish all Pirates out there a good and successful season of 2012.
Marcel and Christian Krahmann
