Curse of the Balearic Islands Part II

Hola Piratas,
I just wanted to know, what Raine is all doing on Majorca and so I made up my way to  Can Picafort. All this I did for Raini, after 20 years on another Balearic Island I tried to enter Majorca again.

Soon, after my arrival we rode to Petra, to eat some cake…delicious coffee and cakes…but somehow to german…but at least he got two gorgeous pies…

Raini always ride in the back, for sure we all know why, back there, he got the best view ;-) Because of that he received some hits, verbal or by fingers, from me for all that on our way to Randa.

Riding up to Rnada is just awesome, it´s like a human Pac-Man game by eating or collecting riderson their way up. It´s just the fact, I can´t do anything but riding up hills. Also I met Willy, an older guy on his Inliner and he wants to ride at the Worls Championships and wants to end up under the first three.

We really pushed the pedals and ate again some cake that day and because of that Raini recievd two fingers from me.

Than we rode back to Petra and ate another cake. On our way there, we drafted behind two triathletes, than of them told bad words backwards and Willy asked me, what he wants? I said, I´m sure they don´t want us to ride in the wind shadow, so Willy rode to the front and asked him, what he wanted and he said: when you will ride once more in our shadow, you´ll receive a “ Watsch´n” slap in the face. Willy responded: I´m just old and not stupid. We needed just 16minutes to Petra with an average speed of 48km/h, I think this is a new record.

Well, of course we were in Palma: Yes, they got trains aswell, I haven´t thought that, but we rode by bus from Can Picafort to Palma and back by train to Inca than with the bus for only 7€, I think this is a fair price and a little bit cheaper than to lent a car for one day. The train station is really impressive…

Before I forget it, Ron was here too..

Nothing special to say about Palma, is just a European City like any other, even the shops are all day open, nothing about “ Siesta” anymore. Thanks to Pitjes t this moment for his restaurant guide, we ate a wonderful menu for only 14€, thanky you Pitjes, sadly you wasn´t here.
But the old town of Alcudia is wonderful, reminds me on the villages on Ibiza. We were there in the evening to ate something, that evening, Real Madrid played Barca and won. But anyhow in the evening it´s just any other tourist walk. Every meter you stepped, you were being asked to come inside to eat or drink something, and so we decided to eat something in a small restaurant in a little side-street, and there you was able to talk Spanish the whole evening, finally…

Than we need to talk about drinking coffee on Majorca: back to the roots, a Cafe con leche is a double espresso with hot milk and you drink it in the morning and it´s being served in a glass, while you like to read your newspaper in quiet with some Ensaimada and only in a glass, the coffee stays hot for a longer time, but nowhere I found Ensaimadas…

Ralf recieved a cup from Tchibo, and most of the time the coffee tasted like water, normally a spoon can stand inside by his own. Once while we rode over the island and tried to avoid eye-catch with the “ Hürzeler” we found a small village, where you did not see any poster of “ Hürzeler” and no one was inside. We felt like we could cry and we received and drank a wonderful perfec “ Café con Leche”.

Generally you haven´t got any BBQ-restaurants  for lunchtime, no matter where you were, you wee being followed by guided bike-groups, and afer one week, they bothered really much, and somehow, there is no more “ Siesta” left on Majorca.
After the first horrible week with cold weather and rain, maybe it was the curse, half of the hotel was ill and all of the germs were breeding in the SPA and than being diffused by the air-condition and all over the buffet, by coughing and sneezing. Yes, I was ill for two days aswell…wonderful…

When I was able to ride again, I found this old woman on the street.

Helpful like I´m, I wanted to help her over the street and kept wondering myself why water pours out of her. So, I checked out where is the front or back…Whew, it was just wee-wee, because she was frightened, luckily nothing on my jersey. Ha, there she takes a look…

Well, of course we ate some Pizza in San Remo, Quite tasty and nice there, but not really spanish…..

Finally it is not my world, it was to german and even the landscape was quite crestfallen for myself in opposite of Ibiza. Also the weather is not steady and to cool, even when you sit on your bike and ride at faster speed and you don´t have very much protection by the wind. While you´re in the middle of the island is almost flat like at hom and in the mountains you got lots of roadbike rider.
We had temperatures around 11degrees in Can Picafort, than you can think about the temperature up in 1000m and afterwards riding downhill it will become more colder, and while you got this weather, is nothing with the beach and soon it will become really boring there. We were just lucky about the fact, that we haven´t booked a guided tour. But at least our card was great. I just would recommend you one week her, two will be too long, and if you like it warm and steady than travel to the canary Islands.

Next time I´ll do bike holiday on my own again, and travelling to Majorca??? Better the others…But at least we had some fun, I only missed my first bike-marathon, because of the cold L
