Cycling on the Ring  -  24 h MtB single rider (328 km – 5960 hm- 19.48 h riding time )

I really like the 24h race in Munich, of course I didn´t like the rain. And so, when Rainer, Capt´n Speed, asked me, if I would participate at another 24h race, I said yes, and so it came. Everything was perfectly organized and planned by him in Munich. But...Rainer, Bütti wanted to ride it on roadbikes nd Moni was already involved in a team of 4, and so, I had no choice, Ihad to do it on my own, as a single rider. Luckily you don´t know before the finish, what that means... On Friday the 31.08.2012 I drove with Moni towards the Ring, when we arrived there, we had rain and wind and a temperature of 8degrees, great I thought, Munic art two... Rainer and Sabrina invited me in their roadbike and Long-Distance Crew Camp and supported me with everything you can wish, food, beverages and massages and of course mental nd technical support. Thank you again at this point During the night the kept falling on my tent and I thought why the fuck I´, doing all this, but a coffee and a roll in the morning banish all bad thoughts. The sun came up and now the world looked much prettier to me. Now, everybody began to search his stuff and getting ready and fixed for the start. Leg warmers on or off and a group picture of my beloved new family... Than it was time for the start, just a short test of your bike and .... Someone told me, on a race like this, you should have a tactic, a good tactic is everything on a race like this… I thought about it while I was in my marathon speed and passed lots of riders... In between, I took a look at out camp, to re-fill my bottles or to eat something, while Rainer oiled my chain or Moni asked me, if she can do something for me... But the sun was shining, the course made fun and I still had some power left... IN the evening when the sun came down and my team fixed the lamp on my bike, I wanted to take a look at that part of the course which was lit by candles....At 00:45o´clock I saw enough and I wasn´t to hold my bars for real and I was in lack of motivation, when I thought about the next 12h of racing. So, I made a break and slept until 4:00o´clock. Standing up was like hell: Get on my bike again and back on the course, my pulse was at 86, well, nothing happened, after 3 rounds I took a break and ate 3 rolls with jam and drank a coffee. Well better again! Than I rode into the sunset which motivated myself a bit. Sometimes I met one of the other Pirate teams and talked and played with them, which made fun for sure, but it was just funny when they changed. And so I talked to some other sngle riders and rode my rounds... On my last round, which I thought, the others collected them for another group pictures to ride togehter across the finish line. It was 30seconds before the time limit, I thought stopping would be stupid and so I rode one more round. After all, I had 36rounds and finished 10th in my age group and 20th overall. After the race, we made up the BBQ again, with my new belved family and after it, I put my bike back on my car and rode home again...   After all, a wonderful adventure!   André
