Solingen MTB Race at the  13.05.2012

In 1996, I stood for the last time at the starting line of an official licensed MTB-race. In the meantime I raced on some Hobby or fun races, but finally I took another time a license for the cylco-cross season of 2011/12.
At the cross races you are still a youngster if you´re just about 30, but you have to start with the men. At the MTB´s, I was in the senior 1 class.
The course in Solingen is really technical, more than the race in Emsland.

Just after the start you had to ride over bitumen, just to get onto the first downhill part. We were awaited there by some hindrances. The first was quite easy, just to get warm, the 2nd was some kind of to get an impression of what will come later. You weren´t able to see a lane on the downhill sections and you had to ride on the right hand side. While we´re warming up, some girls showed us, that the hindrance is ridable. That encouraged me, and I managed it. It looked harder than it was. Than we came to the first tree trunks on a inclined position and of course slippery. Than another downhill part, really small, narrow and slippery as well. Just before the end, you had to ride throu a 100degrees curve with two larges, beaked stones. And when you were able to manage all of this you just had to ride uphill, for a really long time. When you reached the top, came another hindrance: a jump, or if not, you could ride around it, but you lost a few seconds. I did´n´t care about loosing seconds.
I heard of some people who departed again, after visiting the course, that didn´t encourage me as well, but I didn´t want to drive all the way home, so early.
The start was scheduled for 9:30o´clock. I was there, my first licensed race again, and just after the start, all of us pushed the throttle really hard, typical cyclo-cross race.
It doesn´t take lots of time to tell you about the race. I soon found myself on the 12th place and I was able to get up to 2 guys in front of me on the downhill part, but than I lost contact again. I was really proud of myself, I didn´t have a crash or lost control of my bike, maybe because of visiting the course meter for meter. But now I know, what my weakness is, riding uphill, I think I´ve to train a little bit on that, if I want to be successful in these CC-races.

So, see you next time! Normally in Wetter at the2h race on the course of a former cross course of the German Championships. Something like in the middle of a marathona and a CC-race.

Your Guido
