28. City and dike run in Winsen

1st of may, my alarm bell rings at 6:15o´clock. It´s to travel to Winsen for the city and dike run. Torben wants to run the 10,8km and myself the half-marathon
distance. It´s our first time runninf in Winsen and our first time in the Pirate-clothes.
The only thing we know about the running course is, that the 10,8km course is a turning point run and the half-marathon will do a loop towards the river Elbe.

As far as it gets. When we reached Winsen, we see the first passage of the course, right thru the old´town of Winsen over cobble-pavement.

My start is at 9:00o´clock and Torben had to wait 15 more minutes. Pointly at 9:00o`clock is the start and we´re heading thru the
old´town with its small passages, than we leave the town and ran on a dike, the ground changes from cobblestone pavement to bitumen
and than to gravel. We don´t got very much shadow on the course and the sun is heating already. I remark, that I wear to mush and
that I got problems to find my running style, even I got problems with the heat. At the 5km mark is the first supply station,
water is cooling me down again. Now the course devides itself into the 10,8km and the half-marathon, now we got every 2km a supply
station. We´re running down the dike, thru a tunnel and up the dike again, now we run along the Elbe.
On this part of the course we got absolutely no shadow, with head wind just straight up. I see lots of runners ahead of me, but
the distance is to large, when I took a look back, no one in sight, only the runners in front of me, and I closing the gap.
The ground changes again now running on grass, right thru a shep herd. I´m totally sure, that the sheep  feeling pity with the
runners. Soon after the sheep, we are running up the dike again, now I got still 8km to un. Again bitumen and its easier to run,
and when you read the signs, is not far anymore until the finish and now we run on gravel again. Finally 3km before the finish I
catch the runners ahead of m and we running together towards the finish. Cobblestone pavement again, old town, than the finish
line and with the words: Ladies first, he let me cross the finish line before him...

Torben waits for me at the finish, he finished on the 7th place overall on the 10,8km run and won his age-group. And myself, I ended up on the 4th place overall and
2nd in my age-group.
Conclusion: The day made fun, the cloth fits and looking out really awesome...
Lots of greetings
 Torben & Daniela
