My pulse was already higher than 180, even when I registered myself for the Challenge Roth. It was incredible how fast all the starting lots were gone, but at least we had our lots. Now we had to wait for 12 months to participate at the legendary long distance triathlon in Roth.
§,86km of swimming in the Main-Donau-Channel, 180,2km of cycling right thru Ober-Franken including 2times up the hill in Greding being pushed by the viewers at the “ Solarer Hill”. Where you got only inches to the side standing spectators. Just to run finally 42,195km right along the channel and a small round thru the town of Roth just to enter the home straight.
At the 14.07.13 at 6:45o´clock in the morning it was my time to start and Torben started at 7:10o´clock.
The orientation in the channel is quite easy, and so fast swimming times are possible…
The bike course got about 1000m of altitude but it was smooth ridable. At the hot spots the crowd were so loud that you weren´t possible to hear your own thoughts…
During the 2nd round the wind freshed up and the course became more energy-sapping.
I was really happy about reaching the transition area. At the beginning of the run, you got lots of shadow, but than the temperatures rises and the air became more hot and dry and so it became difficult to breathe. Because the course got lotsof turn arounds, you were able to see a lot of faces, known and un-known. The viewers were awesome, even I wanted to change with them, just to stand for a couple of minutes in the shade, but I kept on running and was really happy and satisfied with myself when I reached the finish and became German Champion in my AG 25.
The race in Roth is awesome and legendary and really good organized and you get to know and a closer look at the who is who of the international triathlon scene like Lothat Leder, Jürgen Zäck, Timo Bracht, Belinda Granger or even Chris McCormack.
