This was my first middle distance of the year. 1.2m/2km swim, 50m/80km bike and 12.4m/20km run. The swim started at noon. I tore myself from the waves after 31 minutes. Since I took longer for 1m/1,6km in Schwerin 2 weeks ago, I guess the swim was a little short.

My strategy was not to overdo it on the bike and to attack on the run. Unfortunately, the wind was so strong here that even a German from the north such as myself got tears in my eyes, because it was blowing so hard. I just made it into the transition area with a 21mph/34km/h average.

I actually usually enjoy the running afterwards, but here it was pure force of will. It took me 1:31h to run the 12.4m/20km and I finished the race in 4:24h. After a long breather, the satisfaction with what I had accomplished outweighed all else.
