WATZMANNTOUR – An unforgettable experience right in the heart of the national park of BERCHTESGADEN
(recomended by the Deutschen Alpenverein)

After a stressful car ride from Kassel, we arrived midday on the 2nd of july in Schönau by the Königssee.
Our tour started at the bobsled run house by the Königssee at a heigth of about 603m with a hard boost to Kühroint-Alm. While were running to avoide the upcoming rain, we arrived at the Kühroint hut in about 1420m. After a short refreshment and by moderate weather we moved on for our goal to reach the WATZMANN. Soon, right at one of the few rock climbimg passages, it happened, a thunderstorm broke down. Wet and tired we entered the WATZMANN-House (1930m) in the evening for a night break.

The day after we wanted to go on with our tour, but the weather didn´t wanted us to go to Hocheck, so we turned back to the WATZMANN-House. When the weather became a little bit better we moved on downhill to Wimbachtal. Luckily the Mitterkaseralm(1408m) were open, their we had another rainfall and a small refreshment. Further downhill, we reached the end of the Wimbachsklamm(760m).
Our second field day ended up with another break in Wimbachschloß(937m) and finally in the Naturfreundehouse Wimbachgrießhütte(1327m), where we stayed in an comfortable 4-bedroom.

With a solid breakfast in our stomaches we moved on, on the morning of th 4th of july. Passing the decayed Trischübelalm, acompanieg by chamois, also passing snow and boulder fields to the highest point of our tour, the passing of the Hundstodgatterl in 2188m.

Again we walked over snow fields, but now it went all downhill, on the brink of a stony sea, we sonn saw the Ingolstädter hut, while we walked in direction of Funtensee. After 5 hours of walk, we were heartly welcomed by groundhogs at the Kärlinger House(1631m).

About 200 other hikers met here to an overnight stay. So, with lots of fun our third day of hiking had come to an end, wonderful, the first hot shower since three days. After our last mountain climber breakfast, we said good bye to Funtensee and made our way home with the sun shining above us.

The trail went thru the wonderful to see, Saugasse, really stiffy serpentines down to Königssee. When we saw him thru the forest, we were fascinated from this view, but there still were some meters of altitude before us.

At last we reached the shore of the lake, where we acted on an impulse and get rid of all our clothes and jumped in the cold waters

After this refreshment we continued our tour to St.Bartolomä, where we took a drink on the last days. With an electric boat and lovely vocals we got back to our starting point of the tour. In the evening we checked in the Buchenhaus in Schönau, where we took a bath, again, but in a climated pool. With a hearty dinner at the Bodner Gasthof, we reminded all impressions of our tour.

And everyone of us said, that it wasn´t the last time we´ve been here! WATZMAN, watch out, next time you´re ripe!!!

Lovely greetings
