Last weekend I was off to the Ruhrbike Festival in Wetter
by the Ruhr! The marathon started on Saturday at 2pm and the
track was awesome. It really was a step above the ordinary
marathon track. I was able to find a place at the front of
the starting line, so I got a good start and wasn't stuck
in the crowd in back. A few miles later the track was neutralized.
The track was very diverse with a lot of single trails and
a lot of short, hard ascents.
In the beginning, I had some difficulty finding my rhythm,
since I'm used to longer ascents. However, after a while things
went pretty well and I was able to work my way towards the
front with a group of three. The track didn't afford you the
opportunity of coasting at all, because it was so technically
challenging! At the end there were two really steep ones.
The first one going up to the castle was all asphalt, but
it was really steep!
The second led up to the finish line. This ascent drained
some of the bikers of the last strength they had and I was
able to pass a few of them. I finished after 2:26h, in 6th
place in the Men's division!
So, next Saturday I will be riding in Nordenau in the framework
of the Marathon Trophy!
Athletic greetings,
Daniel
