Willingen showed himself from his best side on marathon day
as far as the weather concerned. What you couldn`t say from
the days before. Just two words to say to define the days
before: Rain and Coldness
Ubi took the short round, which was started on a new course,
with 51,2k´sand 1467DA(Difference in Altitude ). He made up
an awesome time for the trail and in his age-group (Grandmaster, what
a name). He finished third just 1s behind the second place
and only 7,57s behind the first
I also started on the short track, but from another starting
block ( C ), very far behind. Just after the start there was
the problem, that the peleton stayed together, this went on
right up the whole mountain (the Eimberg).
On the first part of the course, it almost come to a stagnancy
on the tarred road. Not even the pülse could rise, you had
just to watch that you don`t get tangled up with the other
riders. Even the organizer tried to get rid of these traffic
jams by deviding the starts into three different starting
blocks and times (7:30, 7:45 and 8:00). Probably the organizer
should think about to start some other way, to loosen up the
peleton, currently with such a huge number of participants
of the marathon in Willingen. But...Anyway...In case of the
heavy rains the days before, a few of the trails were really
muddy. How you can see on the bikes…
Because of the mud, I even had to stop one time to get rid
of it, because in the back nothing worked right anymore.
When I arrived at the finish line, I almost rode passed it,
but I wasn´t the only on… Finallay, on the 3 stages were about
1501 riders in the list of results. Some had to give up because
in the starters list were about 1719…
After the race Stephan, myself and Stephan family chilled
out with only just a low amount of alcohol. But the chain
of activity didn´t work right, because we wanted to go to
the riders party in the brewery, but we had to queue up like
all the others, and later their wasn´t any püossibility to
get inside. But there`s always something positive about, you
could get to bed early and so...Stephan could start at the
next day Enduro race with his eyes wide open. Well, let´s
see, what he has to tell about it from the Wheels of Speed...
Greetings Elvis
