Mainz Marathon : Judgement day…

Here it is, the 8th of may 2011, the day of the marathon in Mainz. For more than half of year, I trained very hard for it, and maybe I changed the one or another bike unit with a running unit, just to finish the marathon in Mainz.

Early in the morning at 70´clock, we already had temperatures around 16degrees and we still got 2 hourds to go for the start. It´s really nice, so you don´t have to freeze in the starting blocks, but actually too hot for a city-marathon. Sometimes you needed a magnifier to find some shadow, the weather forecast told somethin about 28degrees that day, and it became like this.

planned, I crossed the half-marathon line with a time of 1:43:19h, than it became harder, because for 80% of the runners the run was over, only a few wanted to compete and complete the full distance, the marathon, so it became a little bit lonesome on the streets, because even the viewers and spectators, went back inside again, where it was more comfortable with the temperatures, a little bit cooler.
But lucky me, I had my own support team, Jan, my parents and a good friend of mine. They offered me every 8km a bottle with refreshments,  because I wasn´t able to eat a thing, everything I ate, wanted to come agian, the same way....

But at least the last km´s of the marathon went thru the inner city of Mainz, with lots of pople´s, it´s an awesome feeling, when you know, you almost did it. The last time I took a look at my watch was 8km ago, there I discovered, that I wasn´t be able to run and finish the marathon under 3:30h, so, I just enjoyed the atmosphere and ran that fast as possible with my legs…

I was really lucky and satisfied when I saw the finish line moving closer, taking a shower, eat something, and to drink a, of course, alcoholic-free wheat beer, chill, recover, take care of my feet.

Here you can see me smiling, while I cross the finish-line, smiling was only possible because of bliss hormones.:

My time was 3:31:49, I was really satisfied with it.
When I was finally at home again and took a look at the results, I remarked, that I reached the 3rd place in my age-group (20-30). So, I missed the winning ceremony, because knowone could know that. What a pity, because I really wanted to stand on the podium on the town hall square and hear the announcer saying th words: 3rd place of the women main class, Dorothee Richters from the Team Pirate Triathlon…
How this would feel like??? And if I would able to climb up the podium with my legs hurt that much, maybe next time…
Dorothee Richters
